Computer's Eyes, Ears and Hands Home

Embedded computers interact with the world. For this it is necessary that the computer can somehow form a model (or image) of its world. When the computer has to take action towards the world, it must also have active elements such as lights, displays, actuators or motors etc.

Essay on the computer's world

To get a better understanding of the possibility and limitations of the way a computer can observe and influence the world you should write a short essay, supported with references from literature or the Internet, on sensors and actuators for embedded systems. The length of the essay should be between 400 and 600 words.

Embedded systems may be taken very broadly. Examples are:

but also subsystems like:

For the subjects you mention, you should elaborate on the physical dimension of the observation you make, the classification of the signal in multi value or binary (on|off), external conversion from primary dimension (e.g. height) to convertible (resistance, voltage) dimension and the type of interface (binary, AD/DA, counting or time-measurement) and/or conversion that is used.

To rehearse your knowledge on physical quantities and SI units you may use the links in this line as starting points.
